The Beagle has an even Temper and are a gentle breed. They are generally neither Aggressive or Timid.
Their Personality
Beagles are intelligent but because of their inherited bloodline they can be difficult to train. They are easily distracted when picking up a scent. Though they are alert they can also be easily bored and distracted.
Beagles are excellent family dogs and are good around children. They also need a good amount of exercise and having a good size fenced in backyard also helps. They love to be outside and enjoy the outdoors. Also if you have an apartment you will want to make sure to take him out for a walk on a daily basis and keep in mind they do not like being indoors all the time so a house with a yard is the best and a great environment for a beagle.

Trainability
The best time that you can train a beagle is at a young age and it is recommended to have your beagle go through obedience school. Their strong sense of smell can very easily get them in a lot of trouble. He will and can “tune you out” and follow his scent instead of you. He may hear your commands but his scent is so more powerful and often he will not respond to your calls or commands.
This is what many trainers call “selective hearing.” For this reason you should always keep your beagle on a leash in any area that is not fenced in.
